Hi there I am Marianne

I am a licensed and registered Counsellor with the ASCHP, membership registration no: WC23/1824. I offer a variety of theraphy services to facilitate and enhance your wellbeing and the improvement and quality of your life. I am also a travelling Play Therapist, offering Play therapy services to children at Primary schools and Pre-schools.

I use a Person-Centered method meaning I have a non-directive, emphatic process that facilitates and motivates the client during the therapeutic process.

The aim of wellness counsellor’s is to enhance the total wellbeing of their clients by making use of a systems approach to counselling. They also serve to work towards achieving wholeness within the integrative unity of body, mind and spirit. The level of counselling is that of primary health care. This includes individual counselling, group counselling and marriage counselling, lifestyle coaching, counselling for problems, trauma counselling, drug and alcohol abuse counselling, HIV and AIDS counselling, counselling for gambling addiction, bereavement counselling, hospice counselling & support and assistance in human development.

 

The Wellness Counsellor is competent to lend comprehensive counselling support towards the improvement and quality of life by assisting client’s in resolving conflicts, improving relationships, sorting out general problems, coping with life’s challenges and finding inner peace.

Play is an important part of early early learning. It is the lifeblood of the learning process. As children play they are developing the cognitive, socio-emotional and physical skills that will take them into a successful adulthood. They are developing their curiosity, problem solving, intentionality, flexibility and verbal & non verbal skills. Socio-emotionally they are developing their emotional intelligence-learning confidence, cooperation, negotiation, sharing, empathy and how to communicate appropriately. Physically their fine motor and gross motor skills are being practised and developed.

What can a Play Therapist help with?

Play therapy can help with a variety of problems and circumstances, this includes trauma, bereavement, anxiety and depression. It can also help with children who have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and for children whose behavior and anger are becoming problematic.

 

What age is play therapy most effective?

Play therapy interventions are most effective in children and adolescents ages 3 to 12 years old.

 

Play therapy sessions:

Play therapy sessions usually take place once a week and normally last for 30-50 minutes. Upon request it may go on longer.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Welcome to taking the first steps into taking care of your mental health. I offer Individual Online counselling sessions for adults, by making use of the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy technique.

What is Cognitive Behavioral Theraphy?

Cognitive Behavioral Theraphy (CBT) is a form of talk theraphy, CBT is used to treat a variety of disorders including depression, anxiety, addiction and phobias. 

CBT entails cognitive and behavioral techniques to adjust negative thoughts and dysfunctional behaviors. The approach assists people to change fundamental thoughts that contributes to distress and change problematic behaviors that appear from these thoughts.

The goal of cognitive behvioral therapy

is to initiate problem solving skills and to showcase patients how to cope with their problems in a more healthy and positive way. 

What happens during Cognitive Behavioural therapy?

If Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is recommended, you will usually have a session with a therapist once a week. The

course of treatment usually lasts for

between 6 and 20 sessions, with each

session lasting 30 to 60 minutes.

Trauma Therapy

Online for Adults

Life throws many traumatic obstacles at us, and while we cannot predict the outcome of any situation, we can take control of how we respond to certain situations. With my therapy sessions, you’ll learn different techniques to assist you in overcoming and exerting your power of choice over whatever life may throw at you.

Trauma can be defined as going through very stressful and frightening and in times distressing events that takes place. When we refer to emotional and psychological trauma it means we can experience situations or events we find traumatic and how we are affected by our experiences. 

Traumatic experiences are personal, other individuals cannot know your feelings towards your own experiences or if they were traumatic for you. 

Ways in which trauma can happen:

. Once-off or ongoing events

. Being directly harmed

. Witnessing harm to someone else

. Living in a traumatic atmosphere

. Being affected by trauma in a family or through a community. One can also experience trauma relating to parts of your identity, in the form of harrasment,bullying or discrimination

What treatments could help for Trauma Survivors?

Not everyone responds to trauma in the same way, and treatments that are offered to you will depend on your specific symptoms, needs, outcomes and diagnosis.

Talking therapy 

There are various types of talking therapies, but they are designed to give you space to explore difficult feelings and experiences.

In most cases people find different types of therapies helpful for trauma. One should also recognize that there isn't one specific approach that will work. Research has proven that the relationship you have with your therapist is very important, no matter the type of therapy.

 

Other forms of therapy includes Schema Therapy.  

​Schema therapy (ST) is an integrative approach that brings together elements from cognitive behavioral therapy, attachment and object relations theories, and Gestalt and experiential therapies.

What is Schema Therapy and how does it work?The goal of schema therapy is to help patients meet their basic emotional needs by helping the patient learn how to heal schemas by diminishing the intensity of emotional memories comprising the schema and the intensity of bodily sensations, and by changing the cognitive patterns connected to the schema.

Teen Individual Theraphy

We at MV Wellness Counselling Services 

are passionate about nuturing individuals who need to get

through their thoughest and most challenging moments,  with

our individual counselling we empower teens who are suffering from

drug, alchol and many more addictions. Teen Counselling are also helpfull

for adolescents that deals with though emotions, situations, mental health

conditions and trauma. 

Teenage years are a time of change and growth. For many teens

it is also a time where they may experience significant stress, anxiety

and deppression.  Teen counselling focuses on the emotional

and well-being of young people. This type of counselling

 is beneficial from the ages of 13-19 years old.

We offer a variety of theraphy options and tailor our 

services specifically to each teens needs and circumstances.

We use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

This form of therapy focuses on changing the 

negative thinking patterns that often lead to anxiety and

depression. CBT helps teenagers to recognise faulty

or incorrect thought processes and replace them with

healthier thoughts that helps reduce stress levels. We also incorporate

other forms of theraphy if necessary.

Walk & Talk Therapy

                       Walking and Talking for
                        better Wellbeing

           Walk-Talk is a mindfulness-based body oriented therapy.

This alternative therapy offers you the experience in reducing stress, relieving body tension, it improves your circulation. By deep breathing it can clear the body- mind of intrusive, negative thoughts. These sessions can help  decrease anxiety, help regulating your mood and provide you with more restful sleep. In addition you will also experience the feel-good brain chemical benefits, it also invoves mindfullness practice and eco-psychology. During your sessions you will be able to enhance insight in releasing body trauma and even alter behavioral patterns while verbally processing your authentic truth. 

 

 

Why Walking and  therapy?

 

Walking while processing emotions and situations can lead to a deeper processing. This can lead us to access our emotions, thoughts and memories in a unique way. Nature provides us with a different container for therapy. Some clients might be drawn or find that it will be more impactful to be in nature than within the constraints of four walls. Walk&Talk Therapy can provide clients to become more present and more aware of their physical sensations and somatic experiences, provide release from physical tension, and help break up stuck points and rumination.

How does Walk Talk Therapy work?

 

Before your  Walk Talk therapy session starts you will meet your counsellor virtually to discuss any concerns, to identify goals for counselling and so that the counsellor can create a treatment plan and to discuss any details regarding Walk Talk Therapy. Once you and your therapist have worked together in establishing a plan and set intentions for your work, a place to go and walk will then be confirmed.

Walk Talk therapy session will usually start and end at the place or office that you meet your counsellor.  You will walk alongside your counsellor and talk about anything that comes to mind relating to your goals. During the session you may also utilize breathing techniques.​​
